Its wank, as in it sh*t its self after a few laps at Teesside, took it out and checked the backlash, reduced it to 5 thou, put it back in and it's just as bad. After dropping the oil and spotting lots of silver flecks, its out and the original is back in. The teeth on the crown wheel and pinion both have sharp edges. Not a happy bunny to be honest but you live and learn, use Toyota parts when/where ever possible.
Hence the reason for looking else where for alternative options, there is a guy in Hungary that does a a couple of conversions;
I do the pajero/h100 conversion kits and the actual conversions on order.
To answer your questions about this swap here are the information you need to know:
-The conversion kit is a computer redesigned copy of the original parts with some improvements, like the built in traction bracket function. Made of 3mm thick S355 high tensile structural steel, lasercut, V-bent and MIG welded. Initially i made this so people dont have to cut up an ae86 axle to use the brackets on it, which are usually rusted thin and possibly damaged and weakened. also having a light weight built in traction bracket is a nice thing.
I made these to fit perfect on the pajero axle but hey can be fitted to h100 and probably many other axles unless they are too thick.
-pajero axle info: axle can be sourced from the first generation pajero/montero short and normal wheelbase offroad cars. the chassis code is L04#G (where the # is a number, referring to the engine and trim package i think. for exmaple: L043G)
these axles should have a 2-way lsd but you must always check it. possible final drive ratios are: 4.625, 4.875, 5.29 or optionally hyundai h100 bus 4.222 final drive can be installed. the axle overall width after modifying the halfshafts to ae86 spec (halfshaft to disk mating faces distance from left to right side) is: 1395mm
-H100 axle info: these must be hyundai h100 bus rear axles (2.5D) they come with preloaded non torque sensitive lsd or open diff and 4.222 final drive. Pajero or L300 2-way lsd can be installed by some modification. the axle overall width after modifying the halfshafts to ae86 spec (halfshaft to disk mating faces distance from left to right side) is: 1450mm
-weight: i only measured a h100 axle after the build, without brakes. 71kg. pajero should be close to this.
