Side mounted bucket seats - DW Rails

Postby Kev » Wed Apr 16, 2014 4:12 pm

Anyone managed to fit side mounted bucket seats with Driftworks rails. I thought I would be able to mount my OMP Seats but they are too wide. I need to look for an alternative...

The seat is too wide. I will need a seat with a base thats 385mm or thinner to fit in between the runners. Otherwise my head hits the roof as I'm too tall. Driftworks failed to mention this in their advert so I thought 395mm would be fine. They say 410mm will fit in their ad.
Not sure whether I should give up and get a bottom mounted seat.

Had this issue before.. the design of the rails is pretty sh*t. From memory, James (who I bought the N2 off, cut and welded his rails so the right hand side sat an extra 3/4 inch out which allowed for the seat to drop inbetween the rails.

I think this is what I will do. Not a well thought out design at all really. Was hoping to avoid cutting up £150 of side mounts but needs must. It's been a real headache this week.

Keep us posted on your results, I've currently got the same issue and I'm stuck between trying out side mount rails or simply cutting out the crossmember and bolting a seat directly to the bottom of the car.

I fitted the drivers seat at the weekend. We did a fair bit of work on the bottom bolt holes to move everything wider by about 3-4 cm. On the tunnel side I cut the brackets under the slider and rewelded them about 1.5 cm closer to the exhaust tunnel. On the other side I elongated the front hole and at the rear extended the bracket width with a new hole to bring the mount 2 cm outwards. I welded the metal under the original metal to bring the whole mount up so the adjuster mechanism sits above the sill plastics.
