1985 Daihatsu Charmer.

Not a mega spec'd drift car here , but i'll no doubt have a little play in it once tended too , so here it is... Charmer.

Well today was an adventure , but not to much drama.

Turned up , checked the car out , started first attempt. Nice!

Alternator light is on , but is charging , just not a lot , 13.1v and rising whilst idling , good enough for me in the daylight. Don't think it'd be much cop at night , i'd need to fill up with electric now and again.

Checked the water , checked the oil , yep signs of both.

Drove it home :D

131 miles , no issues at all. Car's been stood for a lil bit , brakes felt a bit cheesy. Car smells like old cars do inside.... :D

Got her home and gave her a wash ! :)

Its got a 4A motor in it , not a 2T like I was expecting , I'm tempted just to manual convert it and lower it for now :D

SO i guess I need some parts , pedal box + hydraulics(ae86 are hydraulic clutch yes?) , t50 + prop , ae86 axle (pref with a LSD) , coilovers , wheels , anything else guys?

Also going to go around the body work attending to small paint imperfections and potential rust areas.

Might look out for a better carb and see how this engine goes (its 74k on the car) , and build up a nice 4a-ge when I can. Budget is reasonably tight.

Well , alternator was a false alarm.

I think. haha

Fixed a nasty oil leak from Pressure switch today , cleaned the engine some.

Found some wheels too , the ultimate 80's wheel , 7x 15 et20 , should do nicely when refurbed.

Update : I have cs2's , vanette axle , some 80's CRX seats , ronal turbos , some ae86 brakes and endless pads , and a fuel tank etc , just deliberating what engine to put in it , the 4age , t50 and loom etc are worth more cash than bhp to me at the moment , so considering a BMW m42 engine or a beams lump...

I can't see the pics for some reason ???

Project sounds interesting although the amount of BMW engines in everything these days is to much haha a revvy Beams motor would be just the ticket though :D

Not much to say , i've had an issue with workshops recently , but moving into another workshop now , and should be able to spend a little more time on this , my budget has suffered as a result.

So i've sold the ae86 running gear and decided a bmw m42 lump might work , as it only cost me £200 for everything and its about 140bhp out the box , with other tuning options available , plus it sticks to the revvy 4 pot style I wanted to keep.

I've got a vanette axle already , cs2 coilovers , ae86 fuel tank and pump , m42 engine , box , ecu , wiring , coil on plug kit , all other bits. Got some other 80's parts to fit too as everything on the car will be period correct :D

Nice, that M42 engine will be a first I think, never heard of one of those transplants. Good luck with it. Im currently searching for a reasonably decent engine to use. Keep posting haha
