Brake calipers

Postby Bagpuss » Fri Jul 04, 2014 9:56 am

Hi guys and girls!

So it turns out my stock calipers are all in dire need of replacing / refurbishing, and I figure if they're all coming off why not look in to possible upgrades! So has anyone out there got any recommendations for relatively affordable brake calipers? I hear the RX7 calipers are a popular choice but they require a mounting bracket, I'd prefer to have a bolt on solution.

no real bolt on solution, unless you go for a wilwood kit.. the rx7 upgrade will need discs off a mini cooper or similar, redrilled, brake lines made up and potentially a new master cylinder thats slightly larger.

id just get the oem calipers refurbed. with decent pads and fluid you wont need to upgrade them

Yeah that's what I'm leaning towards now, I know fensport do refurbs if you send your old calipers in, but that isn't an option for me as this is my only car!

Okay, so after a quick look online the only replacement calipers I can find are selling for £130 each, which is a bit steep for me at the moment! Does anyone here know of a rebuild kit for caliper internals?

I didn't think toyota would sell a rebuild kit as such, but who knows, could be worth a look. ebay only gave me individual calipers at £130 each

I've started looking in to doing an FD brake conversion, so far it's working out cheaper to upgrade to the twin pots!

I'd get a price from Toyota, you never know.

I don't suppose anyone has a list of parts numbers / a parts catalogue they could post up here? I'm stripping the brakes down on the weekend, hopefully it'll just be a couple of parts causing all the issues and it'll make for a cheap fix!

Success! On multiple fronts, it turns out the rear drivers side caliper piston had got dislodged, stopping the brake and handbrake from working, so thats sorted, also I've found a UK based website that sells caliper parts, for anyone interested it is:

http://brakeparts.co.uk/#page=parts&pageSection=BHR&mancode=TOYO&brand=TOYOTA&model=COROLLA&modelversion=CORO*(83-87)+AE86+1.6GT+COUPE+(RWD+16V)
